Interactive Metronome® (IM) is an evidence-based assessment and training tool that measures & improves the synchronization of neural impulses within key brain networks for cognitive, communicative, sensory & motor performance. In other words, IM improves motor coordination and timing through repetitive movements to a metronome by aligning neurons in the brain. Motor coordination and timing is important for every-day activities.

Participants receive real time feedback about their timing, which helps them adjust their movements immediately. Through practice, neuron connections are strengthened to allow participants to fine tune their movements. IM increases the efficiency of neurons between important brain structures that are involved with motor coordination and timing.

There are other benefits to IM because of increased neural efficiency. Participants increase general intellectual functioning, controlled attention, working memory, and overall cognitive efficiency. Research in children has documented increased connectivity between the brain’s hemispheres of children with ADHD due to IM and Brain Balance activities.  In addition, researchers have studied parallel development between rhythm skills and literacy, suggesting that IM may help early readers. Clapping and other rhythmic activities may have a broad affect on developing language and literacy processes. IM may also improve mathematic achievement scores.

IM works for people of all ages who have a variety of conditions affecting their cognitive and physical abilities. For more information, contact us!
